The Latest “Flavor Flash” From T. Hasegawa USA Highlights New Trends In Salty Snacks

"Flavor Flash" from T. Hasegawa, a flavor and fragrance producer based in Japan, highlights 10 key insights for salty snacks. Penn State Study Looks At How Pretzel Size Influences How Much Of It Consumers Eat

A study involving 75 adults and conducted by the Sensory Evaluation Center at Penn State found that the size of a snack piece, specifically a pretzel, influences the speed at which people eat it and how much they eat. Larger pretzels are eaten faster and with larger bites, but although people ate the smaller pretzels slower and ate less overall, their intake of sodium was higher. Participants ate 31 percent and 22 percent more of the large pretzels compared with small and medium pretzels, respectively.

Controversies & Disputes

Kettle Brand Air Fried In Legal Jeopardy For Misleading Claims

A class action lawsuit filed in California accuses Campbell Snacks and Kettle Brand Air Fried potato chips of being misleading in claiming the chips are cooked using only an air fryer. The pack front holds the claim of AIR FRIED in large font but there’s a smaller statement lower down that says ‘Kettle Cooked Air Finished’. The suit argues that the label tries to distance the product from traditional chips as it avoids the need for ‘the unhealthy effects of using the oil frying cooking method’ and also says the phrase Kettle Cooked is false as they are not cooked in kettles.
