Coca-Cola Diversifies Into Frozen Desserts In India
June 7, 2017: 12:00 AM EST
Continuing its diversification away from carbonated soft drinks, Coca-Cola is introducing fruit-based frozen desserts in India under the Minute Maid brand, challenging Hindustan Lever and Amul in the ice cream and frozen desserts arena. The new products will be available this summer in institutional locations, such as movie theaters, rather than in retail outlets. The company is also putting fruit chunks in Maaza and Minute Maid “to make the drinks healthier.” Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, that sells the Amul brand, is the largest maker of ice cream and frozen desserts in India with a 17 percent market share. HUL follows with about 10 percent.
