Costco Stores In California Test Marketability Of French Pastries

May 25, 2017: 12:00 AM EST
San Francisco-based bakery chain La Boulangerie has struck a deal with Costco to sell its packaged baked goods at 12 Northern California locations of the membership-only warehouse retailer. Bakery owner Pascal Rigo’s goal is to make his products available to the masses, and the Costco deal is the first step. Rigo has to prove to the company that his wares will do well in the bulk merchandise stores. If successful, La Boulangerie will expand to other Costco locations in California and perhaps across the U.S. Rigo is selling four items at Costco: soft brioche, soft brioche buns, soft brioche hot dog buns and flaky croissant buns.
