Not Even A Hurricane Can Keep A Good Baker Down

August 31, 2017: 12:00 AM EST
Hurricane Harvey, which devastated southeast Texas in late August, was not tough enough to stop a group of bakers trapped in their bakery.  As the storm raged and rain battered El Bolillo (“the Bobbin”) Bakery in Houston, stranded employees kept baking from Saturday through Monday the 28th, ultimately making thousands of loaves of bolillos bread, kolaches, and pan dulce (sweet bread). The owner had tried to rescue his staff on Sunday, but police had barred the way. The baked goods were delivered to emergency centers across the city and distributed to people affected by the flooding. [Image Credit: © El Bolillo Bakery ]
