Popularity Of Fried Chicken Sandwich Surprises Philadelphia Donut Chain

September 9, 2015: 12:00 AM EST
A Philadelphia-based chain of donut shops may have struck culinary gold this summer, but not with donuts. The company sold fried chicken sandwiches exclusively at its Delaware Riverfront shop, set to close for the season late in September. The sandwiches were such a big hit – customers “deluged” the company with requests that the meal be permanently added to the menu – they will be offered at all four Federal Donuts locations. Federal makes the sandwiches with twice-fried boneless chicken breasts seasoned with buttermilk ranch powder, plus American cheese, the company’s proprietary “Rooster Sauce,” and dill pickle chips on a potato roll.
